What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui literally means ‘Wind’ and ‘Water’. It is based on the Shamanic understanding of geomancy and the manipulation of Chi through the use of the Five Elements, but adapted to Western thought and environment.
It is both the art and the science of living in harmony with the environment for health, wealth and happiness.
Chi is the energetic life force that pervades the entire Universe. It is from both below the ground, where it moves like water, and above the ground, where it behaves like wind.
Chi in the Environment
Feng Shui manipulates Chi in the environment in order to enhance and increase its beneficial flow, rather like an acupuncturist would use needles to enhance the beneficial flow of Chi within a person.
Chi is manipulated in Feng Shui in a variety of ways depending on what is required for a particular environment.
If Chi moves too quickly, or too slowly, it can become destructive. Feng Shui consultants will prescribe ways of slowing or quickening the Chi. This can include, for example, narrowing or widening its path or diverting the energy.
